Scott M. Oats started his contract gauging company, SMO Contract Gauging, in 1963 in Mission Tx.
In 1981, Scott retired and passed the business along to his two daughters and their husbands. Steve & Peggy Tomlinson took over operations and named their part of the business Tomlinson Oilfield Service. Steve worked in the oil patch while Peggy kept up with the office work. Their two sons, Tommy and Brad, grew up riding along to check wells and change charts. Often, family time happened while at work with Dad. When Steve passed away in May of 2006, his sons took over operations. The office has since relocated to La Vernia, and Tomlinson Oilfield Service continues to operate throughout all of South Texas.
